Consultation
Groups
Ongoing consultation groups co-led by
Steve Frankel and Phil Erdberg, or by Steve separately, are
each made up of 6 to 8 professionals. They meet
biweekly for 1 1/2 hours. The meetings are held at
Steve Frankel's office at 1044 Sir Francis Drake Blvd., Kentfield, California.
Participants are given ample opportunity to present clinical
material. To enhance these clinical dialogues, Drs. Frankel and Erdberg are prepared to
discuss a broad range of topics, complemented by references to the current
literature.
Continuing education units are available from Dr. Frankel for
psychologists (American Psychological Assn. Provider #1754), MFTs and LCSWs
(California Provider #3239).
The objective of these consultation groups
is to create a community of like-minded professionals who can grow
and work together and refer to one another.

Talks, Seminars and
Workshops - Description of Presentations
Steve Frankel and other Center members offer educational programs. These educational offerings will be scheduled at
schools that teach psychotherapists, agencies, and bookstores. The talks and seminars generally run for an
hour to an hour and a half, the workshops are for a half or full day.
In these
talks, speakers will elaborate upon the
collaborative assessment and treatment process we have evolved at the Center. Both assessment and
treatment are conducted according to the
principles elaborated in Steve Frankel's four books and published articles, including his most
recent book, Evidence from Within: A New Paradigm for Clinical Practice.
In Steve's presentations, he begins by outlining his ideas, identifying steps required
for the patient to be willing to examine and relinquish habitual ways of
experiencing and being. The authenticity and mutual discovery required in this
process need continual redefinition within the treatment. The subjectivity of the
therapy situation restricts the certainty of therapist's and patient's
impressions, mandating that the couple engage in a full and lively
collaboration as they find their way.
In shared talks, a psychologist-assessor continues
by describing his or her part in the Center evaluation and treatment process. The Center assessment and treatment models add this additional,
yet integral, member to the therapy
team. This person provides an alternative clinical impression and the unique perspective of
a psychological or neuropsychological evaluation.
The balance of the talk will be devoted to a case
presentation, illustrating the place of the therapist and of the
psychologist-assessor in our assessment and treatment
process. The discussion, as much as possible, will have the goal of
developing an intense, lively exchange as presenters and audience reach for a
fresh perspective about the therapy segment being
discussed.
