About Therapeutic
Assessment
Psychological and neuropsychological assessment, as part of the focused
evaluation and treatment procedure, are carried out according to the principles
of therapeutic assessment. Therapeutic assessment
is an innovative approach to psychological and neuropsychological evaluation, insuring that patients will
get the most out of treatment. Therapeutic assessment
relies on collaboration between the tester and patient, and between the testing
pair and the therapist, as they work together to arrive at a creative synthesis
using psychological test data obtained by the psychologist. In our opinion,
therapeutic assessment, because it is keyed so closely to the
issues guiding a psychotherapy or evaluation for psychotherapy, is an
especially useful and practical approach to psychological and neuropsychological assessment. The
therapeutic assessment method is the creation of Constance Fischer, Ph.D. and Stephen Finn, Ph.D., with
modifications by others including Diane Engelman, Ph.D.,
Steven Frankel, M.D., and Philip Erdberg, Ph.D.
